Did you know that people who walk on a regular basis have increased muscle strength, higher energy levels and improved health and well-being? Walking helps reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. Health professionals recommend walking at least 10,000 steps a day to achieve those benefits.
So, get ready to move, and take a pre-emptive strike against holiday weight gain by joining the DFS December Walking Challenge!
Think you can’t do it? There are lots of ways to sneak more steps into your day. Take the stairs, walk at lunch or on your coffee break. Get off the subway a stop or two early. Have a walking meeting. Walk to your co-worker’s desk instead of sending an email.
The 3 week challenge starts on Thursday, November 30 and ends on Thursday, December 21. There will be prizes for the employee who walks the most steps overall and for each week (Thursday – Wednesday) you walk 70,000 steps you will be entered to win a prize.
You will need to click the link below and create a profile on ChallengeRunner for tracking. You will also need a step tracker (such as a pedometer, FitBit, etc.) or you can download a free app like Moves on your phone. Good luck and get stepping!!!
